They’ve retired the old lights and raised the bar on the illumination of New York’s Empire State Building.

The new LED lights were switched on this week, accompanied by Alicia Keys song “Empire State of Mind.”

The Associated Press reports that the LED lights have about 16 million color possibilities and they can “ripple, sparkle, sweep and strobe.” The AP reports that Anthony Malkin of the family that owns the building says the building is being renovated at a cost of over a half billion dollars.

The old lights, by the way, are stored on the 72nd floor of the 81-year-old building.

The building has its own Facebook page, and you can see the grand unveiling of the new lights there, just in time for the holidays!
