No Disaster Assistance would be a Disaster
Stevensville rancher Hans McPherson testified before the US Senate Agriculture Committee this week about the need for reliable livestock disaster relief in the next Farm Bill.
Disaster programs in the 2008 Farm Bill are now providing help to farmers and ranchers in Montana affected by the recent flooding.
McPherson said, “The reliable disaster programs…have made all the difference in families’ abilities to get back to business quicker and stronger when emergencies happen.”
McPherson is on the Montana Farm Bureau board of directors and is on the Montana Farm Service Agency State Committee. His family has farmed in the Bitterroot since 1953.
Baucus helped create the Disaster Assistance Trust Fund, which supports programs such as SURE, LIP, LFP and ELAP.
The programs supported by the Disaster Assistance Trust Fund expire in September of this year.
