Open Burning Is Back – If You Call

With Autumn officially upon us, the fire season seems to be winding down. Stage 1 restrictions (no campfires, etc) were relaxed earlier this month, and now Ravalli County is allowing open burning outside the city limits – NO open burning allowed in Hamilton.
The county open burning does have a restriction or two:

  • First, you must call the Hot Line Number to be approved. The number is 1-800-225-6799.
  • Second, all fires must be attended. Have the neighbors help.
  • Third, a water source or fire suppression (capability) must be available at the fire site.

    • Follow those rules to stay out of trouble. The open burning in the county will stop December 1st and no open burning will be allowed through the inversion-prone winter months. Wildfire restrictions are at www.firerestrictions.org.
