The Painted Rocks State Park has 22 campsites alongside Painted Rocks Reservoir, but no campground host.

Many other such campsites in the state have hosts, but not at Painted Rocks, south of Darby MT, up the West Fork of the Bitterroot River.

An Evironmental Assessment has been prepared by Montana State Parks, which is proposing to creat a host site at the campground, which would improve service and resource protection.

Currently, staff visit the site on the east side of the lake about twice a week to clean latrines and check the grounds. The campsites include fire rings, grills and picnic tables and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The State Parks would like public comment on the proposal, with the deadline of July 5.
