Sections of the Nez Perce Trail Road and Forest Road #6223 will be closed beginning August 8th so that the Indian Creek Bridge can be replaced.
Bitterroot National Forest Public Affairs Officer Tod McKay said that the closure should last about two weeks, with some minor delays for another two weeks. A 30-foot wooden bridge will be replaced with a 70 foot steel bridge. The bridge will not need support structures in the streambed, which should eliminate future flooding and washout risks and allow more natural stream flow.
The crews will also be widening and improving the road on both sides of the bridge.
For the folks who usually put-in to the Selway River at Paradise boat launch, that launch will be closed during construction. the Forest Service is asking them to put-in upstream from the Indian Creek Bridge. However, there are no designated or developed launch sites in that area and the move will add about 6 miles to your river float, according to McKay.
