The Reynolds Creek Fire in Glacier National Park has not grown much over the weekend.

The estimated size Monday evening, July 27, was 3,170 acres and the good news is that the forest fire is now 45 percent contained.

Almost 700 people are fighting the fire, which is 6 miles east of Logan Pass and 4 miles west of St Mary Lake Visitor Center (see map). The fire is burning north of St. Mary Lake, along the shore and in rocky terrain.

Saint Mary Campground is expected to be reopened Wednesday, July 29. However, Going to the Sun Road is closed from the St. Mary Visitor Center to Big Bend on the west side of the divide (see the yellow-colored road on the map). Logan Pass is not yet open to the public, as of Monday night.

The Sperry Trail is open from Lake McDonald Lodge to Gunsight Pass, but travel beyond the pass is not permitted due to the fire.

Much of the park remains open. Check the opportunities at the park's official website.
