Ravalli County Gets Almost $2 Million in PILT Funds
The latest distribution of Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILT) from the federal government will send $1,959,799 to Ravalli County, the third largest amount in Montana for the 2013 fiscal year.
The payment is compensation for the amount of non-taxable federal land in the county, of which Ravalli County has over 1,115,000 acres. The Interior Department gives out the money based on the acreage and the population of each county.
Flathead County and Lewis and Clark County each received over $2 million for the top two counties in Montana. Statewide, over $26.5 million was distributed and nationally over $400 million is earmarked as PILT funding.
Missoula County picked up $1,464,787. And, only one county did not receive funding – Daniels County in northeast Montana.
