The Ravalli County Relay for Life began at Haynes Field in Hamilton years ago.

Then, for a few years, it moved to Corvallis and the Event Center track. This weekend, the relay came back to Hamilton and the Ravalli County Fairgrounds.

The walk was on both paved surface and grass. And the facilities available to the group of volunteers were better than they've ever been, according to organizers. The weather was favorable, with a breeze helping cool the walkers during the last hours of the sun. A beautiful sunset was followed by a nearly full moon rising in the east.

The evening began shortly after 6 p.m. July 11 with the Survivors' lap. then, the teams began their overnight walk, with the final lap to be concluded at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 12.

The luminaria ceremony was dramatic as readers recited the names of those who have been touched by cancer.
