What they got, you gotta give it to your mama . . . and you can do it during the halftime show of Super Bowl XLVIII, when the Red Hot Chili Peppers take the stage for one of their first live performances of 2014.

The announcement was made Jan. 11 on Fox’s broadcast of the NFC playoff game between the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints, confirming recent rumors that the band would join previously announced headliner Bruno Mars during the show. ABC News Radio refers to the Chili Peppers’ appearance as a “collaboration” between Mars and the band, but at this point, details are scarce.

The game is scheduled to take place Feb. 2 in East Rutherford, N.J., at MetLife Stadium, and is set to air on Fox starting at 6:25PM ET. It’s shaping up to be a year of high-profile gigs for the Chili Peppers, whose 2014 tour schedule already includes a slot on the South America Lollapalooza lineup that’s preparing to touch down in Chile and Argentina in March and April.

According to guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, the band should also be getting back to work in the studio soon, where they’ll start cutting tracks for the follow-up to 2011′s ‘I’m With You.’ “The way the year has worked out, mainly with Flea playing with Thom Yorke [in the group Atoms for Peace], it doesn’t look like we’ll get down to any serious work until the end of the year, like maybe December,” he told FasterLouder last July. “Which gives me the sneaking suspicion that we won’t really get to it until the beginning of the new year.”
