We're coming upon the second full moon of the month of August, which will be August 31, Friday.

That moon is called a Blue Moon, but the way the smoke has been settling in the Bitterroot Valley this fire season, it could look more like our photo from Tuesday evening.

The smoke scattered the light frequencies and produced the blood red moon (see photo).

By the way, this weekend's blue moon (full phase during the day, at 7:58 a.m. Friday) will be last one until July of 2015. The possibility of two full moons in the same month happens about every three years or so, with the moon on a 29.5 day full moon cycle.
