A wolf was shot and killed in the Burnt Fork area on the east side of the Bitterroot Valley May 31. It had a radio collar.

The two year old male was collared in Oregon in 2013 and had traveled through Idaho, the Big Hole Valley and halfway up the the Bitterroot Valley before someone shot it. The wolf was found near a road between Sawmill Saddle and Ambrose Saddle in upper Haacke Creek, according to Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks officials.

The reward for information about the incident was increased by the group Wolves of the Rockies. The TIP-MONT program is now offering up to $3,500 for a tip that leads to a conviction in the case. The number is 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668).
