So You Want to go Camping – Bitterroot National Forest is Ready – Part Two

You are chompin' at the bit to get out camping, but you're not ready to tramp on a backcountry trail into the wilderness.

The Stevensville Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest has some options:

  • Bass Creek Recreation Area (turn off US 93 at top of Bass Creek Hill) A large logging project will start next month, but right now the area is open. Ch

    See the Night Sky at UM’s Blue Mountain Observatory this Summer

    The University of Montana is opening up the Blue Mountain Observatory again this summer for public observing nights.

    In a news release, UM's Department of Physics and Astronomy noted that the telescope will be pointed toward planets, nebulae, star clusters and galaxies during the eight free viewing nights

    Bitterroot Elk Population Making a Rebound

    The number of elk in the most recent aerial Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks survey is encouraging.

    Mike Thompson of FWP said the count was over 7,300 elk in five hunting districts in and around the Bitterroot Valley, the fourth highest number in survey history

    The bi-annual tour through the state by the Montana Chamber of Commerce started Monday and will reach Hamilton and Missoula on Wednesday.

    Corvallis tennis teams dominated last weekend in the Southwestern A Divisional Tournament in Hamilton and Corvallis.
