The Skalkaho Rye Road #75, southeast of Hamilton, will be temporarily closed so a bridge can be replaced by Bitterroot National Forest crews.

The roadwork will not affect travel on the main Skalkaho Highway, but will block off the Rye Road at Mile Marker 4. That will still allow access from the north end of the road to Jerry Lake Trailhead #503.

The plan is to remove a culvert over Skalkaho Creek and replace it with a 50-foot bridge. The work will start the week of April 29 and the closure should last until May 13. During that time, the unpaved road will be closed.

Officials said in a news release that the new bridge will allow high water flows during runoff and will improve fish passage under the road.
