You are chompin' at the bit to get out camping, but you're not ready to tramp on a backcountry trail into the wilderness.

The Stevensville Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest has some options:

  • Bass Creek Recreation Area (turn off US 93 at top of Bass Creek Hill) A large logging project will start next month, but right now the area is open. Charles Water Campground - open with 28 campsites, water and accessible toilet. Camp host on site. No reservations - first come, first served. The Larry Creek Group Camp is closed (current reservations will be honored)
  • Blodgett Campground - west of Hamilton, with 7 campsites, water and accessible toilet. Pack it in, pack it out. No reservations.
  • Gold Creek Campground - open with 5 campsites and accessible toilet. No water. Pack it in, pack it out. No reservations.
  • Darby Ranger District:

  • Lake Como - all campgrounds are open and the boat launch is open just for the holiday weekend.
  • Black Bear Campground - on Skalkaho Highway - 6 campsites and accessible toilet. No water. Pack it in, pack it out. No reservations.
  • Lost Horse Road - Open only to the Lick Creek Road turnoff. Too muddy and wet beyond that point.
