You are chompin’ at the bit to get out camping, but you’re not ready to tramp on a backcountry trail into the wilderness.
The Stevensville Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest has some options:
Bass Creek Recreation Area (turn off US 93 at top of Bass Creek Hill) A large logging project will start next month, but right now the area is open. Charles Water Campground – open with 28 campsites, water and accessible toilet. Camp host on site. No reservations – first come, first served. The Larry Creek Group Camp is closed (current reservations will be honored)
Blodgett Campground – west of Hamilton, with 7 campsites, water and accessible toilet. Pack it in, pack it out. No reservations.
Gold Creek Campground – open with 5 campsites and accessible toilet. No water. Pack it in, pack it out. No reservations.
Darby Ranger District:
Lake Como – all campgrounds are open and the boat launch is open just for the holiday weekend.
Black Bear Campground – on Skalkaho Highway – 6 campsites and accessible toilet. No water. Pack it in, pack it out. No reservations.
Lost Horse Road – Open only to the Lick Creek Road turnoff. Too muddy and wet beyond that point.
