Good news for some of those who left their homes Monday during the blow-up of the Sawtooth Fire west of Hamilton.

Incident Commander Tom Heintz and Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman have determined that part of the area around the fire is returning to Stage 1 Evacuation level at 7 p.m. this evening (Wednesday September 12).

This allows some residents to return to their homes, but they still need to be at the Level 1 stage, ready for possible evacuation at a moment's notice.

The areas that are returning to Level 1 at 7 p.m. are:

  • Nighthawk Lane will open
  • Paradise Trail and Blodgett Camp Road will open
  • North Gold Creek Loop and Gold Creek Loop will open
  • Westside Road remains in Stage 1 and is open to Local Traffic Only.
  • Remaining in Stage 2 Evacuation are:

  • Everything west of the school bus turnaround on Wyant Lane
  • Everything west of the intersection of Owings Creek Road and Owings Loop
  • Orion Belt Way
  • Everything west of the Roaring Lion and Westside Road intersection
  • Two Horse Lane.
  • The officers at the blockages will be able to help you, starting at 7 p.m. this evening.
