Montana's spring male turkey hunting season began this weekend.

Saturday was the first day to take a tom turkey in the state, including the Bitterroot Valley, which has seen a huge growth in the wild turkey population .

Turkey hunting licenses are available at Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks office on Spurgin Road in Missoula or at regular hunting license providers.

The rules are available when you get your license or you can view them at the FWP website.

Hunters must remember that permission from the landowner is required when hunting on private land. Also, when transporting a spring turkey within the state, one leg and foot must left naturally attached for evidence of sex.
