Those of Irish heritage are plentiful in Montana, and those of us in the Hamilton, Missoula, Anaconda and Butte areas are always happy to see St. Patrick's Day come rolling 'round every year.
First of all, if you have never been to Butte for St Patrick's Day, go there at least once in your life. It is a Montana Irish tradition. If you can't make it there, here are some local events Saturday:In Missoula - •St. Patrick's Day Mass: 8 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church
•St. Patrick's Day Parade: Line up at 11 a.m. ; Departure at 12 p.m. on Higgins Avenue.
•Irish Whiskey Tasting: 2 p.m. at Rhino Bar.
•Free Carousel Rides at Caras Park: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
•St. Patrick's Day Banquet and Auction: 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Holiday Inn Parkside ($30 per ticket). Tickets at Rockin' Rudys.In Hamilton - Brunch at Sapphire Lutheran Home from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Shepherds Pie, Bangers and Mash, Lamb Stew, Irish Soda Bread, Sweet Moor Pudding - Adults $12 Kids $6. Benefits the Bitterroot Celtic Society Games and Gathering in August.In Stevensville - 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. St Patrick's Day Dinner with corned beef and cabbage, potatoes and carrots, St. Mary's Parish Center, 400 Charlos Street. Call 777-2067 for more information.Sunday- March 18 - "Wearin' O' the Green" dinner dance at 1 p.m. in the afternoon at the Hamilton Golden Age Club, 727 South Fifth Street. The club will furnish corned beef and cabbage and coffee. Bring side dishes and desserts for pot luck. $6 per person admission, with music following the meal, and card tables for cards or board games. Non-smoking and non-alcoholic. Call 363-0142.
