While director J.J. Abrams has a team set up in Abu Dhabi filming scenes for ‘Star Wars: Episode 7,’ even more action is commencing in London’s Pinewood Studios. We’ve already seen plenty of leaked photos from the desert-based set, and now we have one more to add to our list, this one coming from the UK and starring the lovable R2-D2.

George Osborne, British Chancellor of the Exchequer & MP for Tatton, visited the London set of ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ and snapped a photo of himself standing alongside Abrams, R2 and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. In addition, he also announced, via Twitter, that “another #StarWars film will be made in [the] UK. A #LongTermEconomicPlan in a galaxy far far away.”

Although he didn’t clarify, we’re assuming he’s referring to the first of the standalone ‘Star Wars’ films, which will be directed by ‘Godzilla‘ helmer Gareth Edwards, and, if Disney and Lucasfilm are to keep on schedule, will hit theaters in 2016. London plays host to many film sets, and Disney is a frequent guest, having already utilized the space for titles like ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and the currently-in-production ‘Avengers 2.’ Plus, the original ‘Star Wars’ films were partly shot in the UK.

‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ is currently filming with an immense cast of new and returning players — Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Dohmnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac and Max von Sydow. This first installment of the brand-new trilogy, which continues the original saga’s storyline approximately 30 years after ‘Return of the Jedi,’ will hit theaters on December 18, 2015. While Edwards has been announced as the director for the first of the standalone films, to be released in between the main trilogy installments, ‘Chronicle‘ and ‘Fantastic Four‘ helmer Josh Trank will direct the second standalone film, projected for a 2018 release.
