The Montana Department of Transportation will present a project to improve about six miles of the East Side Highway south of Stevensville at an Open House Tuesday, September 27.

According to information officer Lori Ryan, the preliminary plan is to widen Secondary Highway 269 from North Birch Creek road to Pine Hollow road.

In a news release, she reported the road would have wider shoulders and flatter slopes on both sides of the highway. The meeting, at Stevensville School multipurpose room, will start at 5 p.m. and should wrap up about 7:30 p.m.

MDT staff will be there to discuss the plan and a display will show the proposal. Public feedback is encouraged.

The group Bike Walk Bitterroot is encouraging its members to attend.

Comments on the proposal will be accepted until October 27.
