On the evening of October 7, a large number of odd-looking creations will line the walking path on the north end of Stevensville. It's the annual Scarecrow Festival!

The scarecrows have ranged from a standard, classic strawman to entire dioramas that tell a short story. Families, businesses, organizations and individuals all enter the competition with a $200 prize for the Peoples' Choice Award and other cash prizes, too.

You have until October 6th to get your creation done, but the paperwork deadline is approaching.

The deadline for Scarecrow entries is Friday, September 30. Entry fee is $30 for businesses and $20 for all others - individuals, families and organizations.

Entry forms are available at the Stevensville Main Street Association office or at the Bitterroot Star Office - both offices on Stevensville's Main Street. Or get the form online at the Main Street website.

October 7th is also the date for a Carved Pumpkin Contest, part of the First Friday fun in Stevensville. There are three age categories for the kids and one adult category.
