Last week, Sula residents were notified that they might lose their post office.
With severe budget problems, the US Postal Service is examining ways to save money. As it has done before, the Postal Service is looking at consolidation of postal areas and closing some smaller post offices. Already mentioned in those plans is the post office at Sula, Montana.
US Congressman Denny Rehberg is asking the Postmaster General to consider public input before making any decisions on the Sula Post Office. In his letter to Postmaster Patrick Donahoe, Rehberg said, "...take into consideration how the closure of these post offices will affect Montanans who depend on timely mail delivery services for personal, business and governmental purposed."
Rehberg, in a new release yesterday, said, "Montana's rural communities often face special financial and travel difficulties if postal services are eliminated in their area, and even see it as a loss of their identity."
The USPS held a meeting at the Sula Clubhouse Wednesday evening to answer questions and take comments.
