The 100,000 acre Beaver Creek Fire has caused the evacuation of over 2,000 homes in the Hailey and Ketchum, Idaho, areas.

The fire has been pushed by high winds for several days and personnel now number over 1,150 people with 10 helicopters and support from air tankers.

According to Incident Commander Beth Lund, the fire grew on the north and south ends, most active in the Deer Creek area. The forest is drought-stressed and the fire has been making some long range crown runs along the tops of the trees.

The fire is west of Highway 75, west of Ketchum. The fire is 8 percent contained and has potential for extreme growth.
