With a cast that includes Jamie Parnell, Tasha Fain, Eric Monson and Mara Lynn Luther, the anticipation is building for the opening night of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" at the Hamilton Playhouse.

Directed by denise rose, the Steven Sondheim musical takes the audience back to the 1800s in London.

It tells the story of Benjamin Barker (Sweeney Todd), who teams up with piemaker Mrs Lovett to dish up some disgusting revenge. A barbershop with "too close" shaves leads to missing persons and a sudden glut of meat pies. That's the murderous plot.  And it's a musical, based on a stage play by Christopher Bond.

As you can tell, it is not a show for kids. But it is great theater. Sweeney Todd opened on Broadway in 1979 and opened in London the next year. It won a Tony award for best musical and a British Olivier award for best new musical.

Some of the strongest voices to ever appear on the Hamilton stage are in the cast for this show, which runs for three weekends - with Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available at the Hamilton Players Box Office weekday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. or online at the Hamilton Players website.
