Fantastic Five: Best Frankensteins in Comics

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.

Halloween is just over a week away, so this week we're counting down different comic renditions of the original literary monster, Frankenstein! Since the publication of Mary Shelley's novel in 1818, the story of the Modern Prometheus and his monster has been adapted into basically every other medium there is. While people probably known Frankenstein's monster best from Boris Karloff's portrayal in the Universal series of movies, the lurching metaphor for the consequences of man's hubris has been no slouch in comics either. Join us as we count down comics' five best portrayals and adaptations of Frankenstein.

Fantastic Five: Best Punches in Comics History

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.

As we all know, comics, and especially superhero comics, are gratuitously violent slugfests that corrupt the morals of children by telling them that we can solve all our problems with our fists and/or lasers. As such, there have been literally tens of thousands of punches thrown across the history of the superhero, and what I have done here is diligently scoured and subsequently rated each one on a 100-point scale so that I might objectively rate the five very best, rather than just writing about five different punches that seemed especially notable to me at the time I was composing this script, which I definitely did not do. No sir.

Killian Eng’s Early Illustration Work Finally Reissued In ‘Object 5′ From Floating World

Followers of ComicsAlliance's Best Art Ever (This Week) feature are doubtlessly familiar with the work of Killian Eng, but for those who aren't, get ready to meet your new favorite artist. Based in Stockholm and also known as DW Design, Eng has cultivated a loyal audience of illustration and commercial art aficionados for his imaginative synthesis of science fiction, surrealism, film design, architecture, and a liberal dose of vintage prog-rock album art. His work stands out even among the mighty roster of outfits like Mondo, for whom Eng has created posters for films like Heavy Metal, The Matrix, Starship Troopers and Ghost in the Shell. But because of the exclusivity of those products, it's relatively difficult to take Eng home with you. Thankfully, Floating World has made it easier with a long awaited reissue of the out-of-print Object 5, collecting Eng's early work.

Marvel Releases Seven Pages Of ‘Star Wars’ By Aaron, Cassaday & Martin

We're less than a week away from the launch of Marvel's Star Wars line with the first issue of, hey, Star Wars, by Jason Aaron, John Cassaday, and Laura Martin, so Marvel has put out a couple of sneak peaks of the issue -- one lettered, one unlettered. We've helpfully brought them together so you can enjoy more of the story of fan favorite character Overseer Aggadeen and... the cast of Firefly, I think? I don't really know Star Wars; sorry.

Star Wars #1 is an officially in-continuity comic (for now, anyway!) that picks up directly after the end of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, following the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow in the wake of the destruction of the Death Star. Finally, a sequel to Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope! I can't believe they've never done that before.

Best Art Ever (This Week): Brooklyn 99, Alien, The Crow, Tina Turner, Constantine And More

We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, as well as the special qualities of comic book storytelling, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great pinups, fan art and other illustrations on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art Ever (This Week), a weekly depository for just some of the pieces of especially compelling artwork that we come across in our regular travels across the Web. Some of it’s new, some of it’s old, some of it’s created by working professionals, some of it’s created by future stars, some of it’s created by talented fans, awnd some of it’s endearingly silly. All of it is awesome.
