The Big Hole National Battlefield is right along the highway on Montana 43. It is part of the Nez Perce Trail that tells the story of Chief Joseph and his 1877 attempt to get his people to Canada, away from the US reservation system
Southeast of us is the Big Hole National Battlefield, where the Nez Perce bands of Chief Joseph clashed with the 7th US Infantry in 1877.
A newly renovated visitor center just reopened at the site with new exhibits, maps, a larger movie screen and more
In the Bitterroot Valley, we know that the Big Hole Battlefield is south and east of us, traveling over Lost Trail and Chief Joseph Passes to get there.
In cyberspace, though, the National Park Service attraction is now on Facebook
The first speaker in the summer series at the Big Hole National Battlefield will be Maurice "Pete" Wilson, who'll present traditional life-ways of the Nez Perce at four sessions this weekend.
Peter will be at the Battlefield Contact Station Saturday at Noon and 3pm, and then he'll move about 7 miles west up the road to the May Creek Campground along Highway 43 for an evening presentation at 7pm
