A mature bull bison that roamed from a buffer area outside Yellowstone National Park north of Gardiner in southwestern Montana has been shot and killed by state officials.

A group of Yellowstone Bison, on media mogul Ted Turner's Montana ranch, are now the subject of a legal fight between environmental groups seeking the reintroduction of wild bison and Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will be hosting a series of public meetings around the state this month as a first step toward developing a long-term bison conservation and management
plan for the state. In west-central Montana, interested persons may attend the
meeting in Missoula, which will be held on May 14 from 6-9 p.m. at the Holiday
Inn, Downtown at the Park (200 S. Pattee).
