The Moose Meadows Fire, 18 miles southwest of Philipsburg, grew to over 1,400 by Sunday morning and the Gold Pan Complex of fires (Gold Pan and Goat fires) in the Frank Church Wilderness gained 2,000 acres Friday and more on Saturday and is now over 7,000 acres
A smoke plume was evident over the Bitterroot Mountains Friday afternoon and evening. The smoke is tentatively identified as the California Point Fire, which is in Idaho in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness
The Gold Pan forest fire in the Frank Church Wilderness is now over 5,000 acres and the fire has jumped the Selway River. It is moving closer to the Magruder Ranger Station and a Type 2 Fire Management Team will take over the Gold Pan and the much smaller Goat wilderness fire this weekend
The Gold Pan wilderness fire is now over 3,000 acres in size and is only a quarter mile from the Magruder Corridor road between the Frank Church and the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness areas.
Tod McKay of the Bitterroot National Forest said the lightning-caused fire in the West Fork Ranger District has grown on the southwest corner and on the east side in lower Gold Pan Creek and Landon Gulch
