A light fire season means some big savings for Montana’s fire suppression fund. The state expects to spend about 19 million dollars on fighting fires each year recently, but Montana State Forester with the DNRC Bob Harrington says we’ve only barely dipped into the fund so far this year.
A fire started Monday afternoon on private land near Missoula in mixed grass and timber. The Colorado Gulch Fire has triggered response from the Montana Department of Natural Resources, local fire departments and the Forest Service.
MISSOULA, Mont. - According to Boyd Hartwig, of the Lolo National Forest, crews with two engines and two helicopter are battling new fire start about 5 miles due south of Frenchtown on private timber land in the Deep Creek area.
