Montana General Hunting Season Harvest Slightly Different from 2011

Hunter numbers and elk harvest totals are down from last year through the Darby Fish, Wildlife and Parks Check Station, but deer harvest numbers are a few percentage points different.

For all of West Central Montana, (the Darby, Anaconda and Bonner check stations), white-tailed deer are 12 percent higher than last year, mule deer totals are up three percent

State officials report another week of numbers that are below last year in the hunting season.

The check station totals are lower this year than last year and the 5-year average, according to the Dept of Fish Wildlife and Parks.
Mike Thompson of Fish Wildlife and Parks said in a news release this week, "We've seen less hunters in the field this season, primarily in the southern Bitterroot, and a large reason for this is the really restricted hunting regulations in district 250 (the West Fork)
