In mid-August, the air monitor at the Ravalli County Courthouse in Hamilton reached the level "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups." It got worse during the next few weeks.

Firefighter Killed In Idaho Forest Fire

The US Forest Service has identified a firefighter killed in an Idaho wildfire Sunday as Anne Veseth, age 20, a seasonal firefighter for the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest.

Veseth, as native of Moscow, Idaho and a sophomore at Lewis and Clark State College In Lewiston, was apparently struck by a falling tree or debris

Montana Man Sentenced For Idaho Bank Robbery

REXBURG, Idaho (AP) — A 34-year-old Montana man faces at least another three years in prison for the January 2010 robbery of Zions Bank in Rexburg.

Madison County authorities say 7th District Judge Greg Moeller sentenced John H. Green
of Livingston, Mont., on Monday to five to 20 years in prison. He received credit for the 711 days he has already served. He also must pay restitution.

The Ravalli County Sheriff's Office has been notifying about 50 residences in the West Fork drainage that they are under Stage 1 Evacuation orders because of the 21,000 acre Saddle Fire.
Stage 1 is a warning to homeowners to prepare to leave as quickly as possible should an evacuation be necessary

The fire, south of the Bitterroot Valley, crept onto Bitterroot National Forest land Sunday, and now a joint operation from both forests is managing the fire

Saddle and Stud Fires Move East

The wilderness forests fires that make up the Saddle complex in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness have grown to over 700 acres during the weekend.
The fires are being managed for resource benefits and crews are in place at Horse Creek Hot Springs, Oreana Lookout, Gattin Ranch and a small mine in the Horse Creek drainage for possible structure protection
