Weekend Box Office Report: Audiences Says “You’re Welcome” for Another ‘Moana’ Box Office Win

This weekend’s box office was essentially the hangover from last week’s big holiday: the numbers are a little smaller, very little in the top 10 actually moved around, and the only new release didn’t even come close to threatening the dominion of Moana and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

There Will Be ‘Many’ More ‘Ghostbusters’ Movies, According to Ivan Reitman

Ivan Reitman ain’t afraid of no underwhelming box office numbers. The original Ghostbusters director and producer of this year’s reboot says that despite weak returns for Paul Feig’s film, “there’s going to be many other” movies in the franchise. That statement contradicts a previous report, which indicated that Sony is focusing their energy on the animated Ghostbusters film and a new TV series, while the possibility of a sequel to Feig’s reboot had become very unlikely.

The 25 Greatest Disney Songs Ever

Over nearly 80 years, the 56 feature films from Walt Disney Animation Studios have become beloved and instantly recognizable their iconic fairy tales, memorable comic-relief sidekicks, terrifying villains, and some of the greatest songs in cinema history. This week heralds the release of Disney’s latest animated film, Moana, which boasts songs co-written by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. So there’s no better time to compile a list of the 25 best songs in animated Disney history — with a couple of important pre-list caveats. First, to avoid overloading the list with songs from only a few films, each movie here could only be represented by a maximum of two songs. Newt Scamander’s Past Will Come Back to Haunt Him in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them made no secret of the fact that though it takes place an ocean and almost a century away, it’s still deeply tied to the Harry Potter universe. Johnny Depp plays the dark wizard Grindelwald, the Voldemort before Voldemort, in this movie and its sequels, and director David Yates is already casting for Dumbledore for the sequel, who we know used to be Grindelwald’s friend. Another character with close ties to Newt Scamander will appear in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, and bring the magizoologist’s past back with them. (Be warned: SPOILERS for Fantastic Beasts are contained in the following paragraphs.)
