State Insurance Commissioner on Supreme Court Ruling [AUDIO]

Montana State Insurance Commissioner Monica Lindeen published a statement Thursday regarding the 5-4 vote in the United States Supreme Court upholding the President’s Health care bill. Lindeen says her office will continue to uphold and enforce the two year-old law, however, Lindeen says she is very concerned about protecting state’s rights when it comes to regulating rates and providing services in a rural state like Montana.

The United States Supreme Court on a 5-4 vote Thursday morning upheld that the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, would be allowed as a tax. Senior Fellow for Constitutional Studies with the Independence Institute, Rob Natelson, says the decision was a surprise to many court-watchers. He says Chief Justice John Roberts did everything he could to accommodate Congress so that the bill could be fully implemented.
