Cooler temperatures kept the Chrandal Fire at about 1,700 acres Friday.

Saturday, winds and storms sere expected. Crews are containing spot fires on the Idaho side of the divide, however poor access, snags and terrain has slowed the direct attack

Saddle Fire Approaches Hughes Creek – Aug 25

The Ravalli County Sheriff's Office has been notifying about 50 residences in the West Fork drainage that they are under Stage 1 Evacuation orders because of the 21,000 acre Saddle Fire.
Stage 1 is a warning to homeowners to prepare to leave as quickly as possible should an evacuation be necessary

A huge drop in elk population in the Bitterroot Valley's West Fork has caused concern from wolf managers. The 2010 survey showed 764 elk there. The Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks (FWP) would like to have between 1,600 to 2,400 elk in the zone-wide area
