Gamers Play Tetris on Skyscraper, Nostalgia Looms Large

Tetris fans, as well as really bored and easily amused people, got a chance to play Tetris on a giant building in Philadelphia this past weekend. Tetris, the game responsible for the most smashed Nintendo controllers during the ’80s (we’re assuming, based on personal experience), is one of the most popular video games of all time.

According to Yahoo! News, Project developer Frank Lee put the classic stress-inducing game on the skyscaper as a way to attract more people to Philly Tech Week. The stunt also celebrates Tetris’ 30th anniversary this year.

Lee told the crowd gathered there, “This project began as a personal love letter to the games that I loved when I was a child — Pong last year, Tetris this year. But it ended up as a way of uniting the city of Philadelphia.”

“It has been probably 15 years since I played Tetris last on a Game Boy, and it’s much different playing on the side of building that’s a half-mile away,” Philly resident Sam Robinson told Yahoo! News. “Everything’s happening so quick.”

It’s probably a good thing that the controller is locked down.
