The singer-songwriter Melissa Harris of Stevensville won the East Montana State Final at the State Fair July 28th in Great Falls.

She represented KYSS-FM of Missoula at the state level event against five other competitors. At the end of the evening, she had the highest score, a check for $1,000 and a place at the regional showdown.

The West Regional Texaco Country Showdown will be at the Mill Casino Hotel in Coos Bay, Oregon in November.

She and Joe Bauman, winner of the West Montana State Final July 27, will represent the state at the regional showdown. The regional winners will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Nashville, Tennessee, for the National Final. The winner of that contest will receive $100,000 and the title of "Best New Act in Country Music."

At the KYSS-FM showdown, she scored higher than nine other contestants, singing solo with her "old guitar." The local contest was held at the Rustic Hut in Florence. Melissa works at GlaxoSmithKline in Hamilton.
