The Hamilton Department of Public Works wants to help residents understand how they can help the trees throughout the city with proper care.

Toward that end, a free "Tree Education and Outreach" seminar will be presented Wednesday June 13 at 6pm.

Director of Public Works Keith Smith said the session will be at Hamilton City Hall on South 2nd Street, in the upstairs community room.

Jamie Kirby, Urban Forester with the Missoula office of the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, will help folks understand a number of topics. The city is working with the DNRC to preserve trees through maintenance or replacement.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Tree Board Functions and Responsibilities
  • The Value of Trees, including Real Property
  • Ongoing Tree Replacement Program
  • Resident Responsibilities
  • Volunteer Opportunities

Handouts and brochures will be available on tree planting, pruning and maintenance, care of young trees and disease indications.
