Dr. Anthony Fauci, MD, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will look back on the 30-year history of the world’s fight against HIV/AIDS in a free lecture in Hamilton.
Dr Fauci will take us back to 1981, when a mysterious, previously unknown disease began its spread.
As a physician/scientist and research administrator, Dr Fauci has played a major role in the development of treatments and prevention tools.
He also was instrumental in the Hamilton-based Rocky Mountain Laboratories’ expansion with a Biolevel 4 Research Lab, one of the most important types of facilities to study infectious disease.
Dr Fauci has received numerous awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the National Medal of Science and Mary Woodard Lasker Award for Public Service.
As director of NIAID for over 30 years, he has been at the forefront of public health crises such as SARS and 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic. He has been an advisor to five US Presidents.
The hour-long presentation will be Thursday, August 11th, at Hamilton High School’s Performing Art Center, starting at 7pm.
The public is encouraged to attend the speech, free of charge, sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Laboratories, part of the NAIAD, a component of the National Institutes of Health.
