The Fires Continue – Sept 8
The 41 Complex on the east side of the Bitterroot Valley in the Sapphire Mountains has crossed the Skalkaho Highway in numerous places and continues to grow in the hot, dry weather. As of Thursday morning, the largest fire, The Up Top Fire – which caused officials to close the Skalkaho Highway – has burned over 4500 acres so far.
More area closures have been announced. All of Railroad Creek Road has been closed and portions of the Skalkaho-Rye Road between Darby and the Skalkaho Highway are closed because of the Fox Peak and Coyote Meadows fires.
The Northern Rockies Incident Command team has taken over management of the fire. Gird Point Lookout is being “wrapped” to protect it from flames.
