The Highway That is the Bitterroot River

This year, the Bitterroot River has gone from high water to late summer flows in a matter of days.

That has crowded everybody into the channels at the same time – I’m talking about the floaters in inner tubes, the fishermen being guided by the local pros, the kids jumping off the bridges, and the folks who thought a nice quiet float on the valley’s main river might be fun to beat the heat.

There’s a lot of people out there, and we advise the usual caution around the suspicious eddies in the current. The river is nice and cool, but the hidden dangers abound.

Have some good, safe, summer fun!
