The Literacy Bitterroot organization held their first Scrabble Scramble Saturday in Corvallis.

The players ranged from expert to novice and after about four hours of play, awards were given out to highest score, lowest score, longest word and best word to recognize Veterans Day.

Dixie Stark, the director of the literacy group said the funds raised at the scramble will help teach adults to read better, help people complete their high school education with GED preparation, and most recently, get adults ready for enrolling in the University of Montana College courses in Hamilton.

Volunteers made sure the players were helped through word challenges and other questions at the scramble, held at the Corvallis United Methodist Church community room. The main sponsor for the event was Raymond James Financial Services in Hamilton.
