‘The Muppets 2′ Casts ‘Modern Family’ Star Ty Burrell
While we're kind of bummed that 'Inglourious Basterds' star Christoph Waltz won't be joining the Muppets in their next film adventure, we're quite pleased with this news from THR: 'Modern Family' star Ty Burrell has been cast in the part that Waltz almost had -- the role of an Interpol inspector.
The sequel will follow the Muppets on a more international adventure as they head off to explore Europe. Director James Bobin is returning for the sequel to 2011's 'The Muppets,' and co-wrote the script with Nicholas Stoller. The film promises plenty of awesome cameos, as usual, but Burrell's role is one of the more prominent and integral ones to the story.
THR also notes that another important role is that of a "Russian femme fatale," a part which has yet to be cast. Jason Segel, who starred in the first film, will not be returning, but hopefully Burrell can help fill the giant Segel-sized hole with his charming brand of humor and awesome physical comedy chops.
Burrell won an Emmy in 2011 for his role as Phil Dunphy on the ABC hit comedy 'Modern Family' and will star in two indie comedies next year -- 'Skeleton Twins' with Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, and the ensemble 'Switch.'
