University of Montana’s Kareem Jamar Named Offensive Player of the Year – Will Cherry Named Defensive Player of the Year for Big Sky Conference
A double-dose of good news for Montana fans on Monday, as the Big Sky Conference named junior forward/guard Kareem Jamar as the Offensive Player of the Year, and senior guard Will Cherry, for the second year in a row, was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Jamar is the first University of Montana player to be named the offensive MVP in more than 20 years. He was also named to the all Big-Sky First Team for the second straight season. Cherry made the all conference first team for the third straight year.
Jamar and North Dakota junior Troy Huff were unanimous selections to the First Team. Joining Jamar, Cherry and Huff on the First Team were Weber State senior guard Scott Bamforth, Northern Arizona senior guard Gabe Rogers, and Northern Colorado junior forward Derrick Barden.
The Montana Grizzlies have won the Big Sky Conference regular season title for the second straight year, and will host the conference tournament starting Thursday.
The Montana Lady Griz also won the Big Sky Conference regular season title, and will host the woman's tournament starting Wednesday.
