The firelines at many of the wildfires in the area have people who are planning to attend college this fall.

The problem has been the past few years that fire season has extended beyond the registration dates at colleges.

The University of Montana is extending many of its deadlines until September 16. That includes class registration, financial aid requests, housing and other deadlines.

UM students who are fighting fires must call (406) 243-6599 by this Sunday, August 25, to take advantage of the extensions.

Officials said in a news release that this applies to firefighters and support service staff, as well as National Guard members and other military personnel.

The 24-hour-a-day number will record students' information, so be ready to provide name, student ID number, the name of the firefighting agency for whom they are working and if they are planning to use university housing.
