Violinist Hilary Hahn to Appear Thursday in Hamilton
They've saved the best for last. The 2013-2014 Bitterroot Performing Arts Series concludes with renowned violinist Hilary Hahn Thursday, May 1.
The 7:30 p.m. performance is part of her two-month recital collaboration this year with pianist Cory Smythe. The program, at the Hamilton Performing Arts Center, will include Schoenberg Phantasy, a Mozart Sonata, Schubert Fantasia in C Major, Telemann Fantasia No. 6 in E Minor, and commissions by Antón García Abril and Richard Barrett.
Hahn, in her latest world tour, has performed in 50 cities in 14 countries, including guest appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic, the New World symphony orchestra and the Camerata Salzburg. She will come to Montana (her first time to visit the state) from two performances in Washington state. Then, in a week, she will be in London, followed by recitals in Spain, Germany and Sweden.
Her latest recording project, "In 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores" has been released as a 2-CD Deutsche Grammophon recording, receiving critical acclaim from the Boston Globe and the New York Times. She has received numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards.
The violinist is comfortable with classical music from such greats as Mozart, Sibelius and Brahms, but also embraces new compositions.
