We All Looked Up 50 Years Ago Today

John Glenn is at Cape Canaveral today to celebrate a space milestone.
From the launch pad 50 years ago, Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth in a space capsule. After three orbits, he came back down, landing safely in the ocean.
Glenn was testing the technology that would allow a moon landing. He wasn’t able to book a flight to the moon, but many years later, they let him ride a Space Shuttle back into orbit.
We’ve linked to NASA’s 7-minute feature on John Glenn, and we salute him.
