Saturday and Sunday, the dogs will be racing at Gibbons Pass in the 7th Annual Bitterroot Mushers "Darby Dog Derby."

Organizer Nikki Arndt said the event is open to the public with competition from 8-dog, 6-dog, 4-dog and 2-dog teams, along with skijor events.

The registered mushers will meet for a pre-race dinner and meeting Friday night at Little Blue Joint Restaurant in Darby. The races at the top of Lost Trail Pass will start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, January 18 and 19.

There will be sprints and long distance races, along with the popular "pee wee" race for ages 4 to 12 Saturday afternoon about 1 p.m. after the conclusion of the major races.

The races are held in cooperation with the Bitterroot and Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forests. And for more information check out the Bitterroot Mushers website.
