A Cold Bird on a Winter Day
A hardy group of birders conducted the annual Christmas bird count in Hamilton last Saturday, December 19. It was the 29th year for the Hamilton event.
They saw a nice variety of our flying friends in the count, sponsored nationally by the Audubon Society.
The next bird count in the valley is the Stevensville Christmas Bird Count, which happens the day after Christmas, December 26. That count usually packs in the birds, since it includes the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge. The Stevensville count is now in its 51st year!
Bitterroot Audubon members are involved in both counts and another one in January in the Big Hole. The Big Hole count is in its ninth year.
Check the Bitterroot Audubon website for information on how you can get involved in counting birds at your backyard bird feeder.
