December 13, 1919, the Ravalli American Legion Post 47 was chartered. This year, the Hamilton post wanted to show off its refurbished hall October 26 and it also celebrated the 100 year anniversary. A good turnout from the public saw the facility, along with historic displays of the Legion's community projects, historic uniforms and artifacts. A silent auction was held to raise money for roof repairs. There is also an ongoing search for identities of a file of military portraits.

The first commander was Theodore W. Lockwood. Photos of the past commanders are prominently displayed on the Post walls (see photo below). The Post sponsors American Legion Red Sox baseball, Boy Scouts of America and county attendees to Montana Boys State. Post 47 also provides military honors at veterans funerals and Color Guard at parades and ceremonies, hosts Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies and places flags and grave markers on veterans graves for Memorial Day.
