Awesome Scarecrows Delight Stevensville Crowds
Depending on the weather, you can still view the plethora of scarecrows along the bike path and along Main Street in Stevensville all this week. The 2021 Scarecrow Festival opened to public viewing Friday, October 1, and the public voted both Friday and Saturday on their favorites in the creative grouping.
The winners were announced on Sunday. Winning in the Groups and Non-profit category was the crowded broomstick, piloted by a funny witch with too many passengers. The Dewey family should be proud of their creation, Room On The Broom. In Second place was Jesus Loves The Little Children by the Bowles and Euker families. Coming in hungrily at Third place was the wheelbarrow-pushing bear scarecrow from the Friday Women Hikers, Don't Feed The Bears.
In the Business section, and displayed along Stevensville's Main Street, were these winners:
- First place - Mighty Mantis Mawkin by Boo-T-Eek,
- Second place was Coasting Into Halloween by the Mini-Market
- Third place was Welcome to the Dog Park in front of Farmers Insurance. (Photos below)
- The Kids scarecrow winner was Silenzio Bruno!
- Special judges awards for Artistic Merit were Mighty Mantis Mawkin in First place and Nevermore in Second place.
The weekend included a kids straw bale maze, pumpkin carving, live music and a food court both Friday and Saturday and on Saturday, horse-drawn wagon rides and a Brewfest later in the afternoon with more live music. The annual Stevensville Scarecrow Festival entries will be left in place for viewing all week, but that's dependent on the weather.
Proceeds from the festival go toward the construction of a new kids Splash Pad at Lewis & Clark Park. The organizers thank sponsors Coding for Kids, Brown Trout Lives Matter, Burnt Fork Market, Clearwater Credit Union, TrailWest Bank, Stevensville Civic Club and Bill & Jan Perrin.
