Bitterroot Forest May Update Elk Objectives in 1987 Plan
The Bitterroot National Forest set some objectives for Elk Habitat in the 1987 Forest Plan. In the 32 years since, research projects and other studies have shown changes in elk use patterns and distribution, reported Tod McKay of the Bitterroot Forest. The forest officials are evaluating the 1987 document and, with help from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, will be updating the information to incorporate it and possibly amend the Forest Plan.
The public is encouraged to suggest issues and any relevant literature to the Bitterroot National Forest to help with the re-evaluation. To learn more about the work being done check the BNF project website. Public comments are due by January 17, 2020.
